Car Seat Quilts

My daughter and son-in-law have just had twins!  A boy and a girl.  I'm not posting pictures, as I haven't got permission from them to do so, but I do have pictures of quilts (surprise!)

I made them each a quilt to cover their carseat.  This is a Moda Bakeshop pattern, the Sophie Car Seat Cover, by Jennie Pickett.  I saved it years ago, as it was so cute - and I knew it would come in handy in the Canadian climate.

Here are my versions:

The colour is off, as I took the picture indoors, after dark.  They are actually more of a teal colour than the pictures show.

The quilts are identical, but I quilted them differently.  This one is quilted with swirls - a la Kathleen Riggins.  My daughter gave me Kathleen's "Diary of a Young Swirl" last Christmas, and I was able to put the instructions to good use!

The second one is my version of the Pop design, from Christina Cameli's "Step by Step Free Motion Quilting" book.  I say "my version" because, if you happen to have the book, you'll see it really doesn't look much like Christina's version.  But I'm happy with it!

Both quilts have made their way to my daughter's place, ready to use when the twins come home from NICU.  (They are both doing well, just having a few issues as a result of being preemies.)

And, no doubt the quilts will be needed.  Here is what it looks like today at my place!  We've got about 10 inches of snow so far, and it isn't supposed to stop until later on tonight.

Freebie Fifteen This Month

Well, it's time for the Freebie Fifteen block again at my LQS.  Although today is the 15th, the store isn't open today, so I'll bring it in tomorrow.

This one has a bit of a Valentine's theme - I guess they were designing it last month this time!

Again with the templates!  I have to say - these are certainly (ahem) unusual blocks!

This is the alternate block from last month.

Again with the pinwheel templates, but I'm getting used to those.  This one had a little more colour than most of the others.  You might think my photos are washed out, but those are the colours of the fabrics - very subdued!

It was Mr. CQT's birthday on Friday.  My daughter was home for the week, as it's spring break at the school where she teaches.  Mr. CQT is a huge John Deere fan, so my daughter made him a John Deere cake.

Needless to say, he was delighted!

Happy Birthday to Me

I've been sitting on this empty blog for a few days - I guess this is as good a day as any to start.

I'm Colleen.  I'm 54 (today), married, with two adult children.  My daughter is 24 and teaching in northern Saskatchewan.  My son is 19 and working at a car dealership while he decides what  he wants to do.  He lives at home.  We have an elderly dog, who isn't as entertaining as he used to be.

By day, I'm a Manager of a government department that helps people without lawyers navigate the court system.  Most of the people have family law issues - divorce, custody, child support, protection orders.  It's a high stress, high emotion type of job - but very rewarding too.

Quilting is the way I de-stress.  Not just the actual process of quilting, but also reading quilting blogs and listening to quilting podcasts.  So, this blog will mostly be about my quilting journey.  I also love to cook, so I'll probably post recipes now and then.
